The clanging of metal could be heard
as a man slipped the keys into the door
finishing her prayer, she rose up off her knees
knowing this day will be like none before
Twenty-five years of unrighteous confinement
Today it all comes to a head
no more will she be alone in her hell
no more to lay down on this bed
Though it is true the fault was not hers
she knew it was a matter of time
all the appeals amounted to nothing
she still had to pay for the crime
The lock now open, she walks on through
finally free from the trap of his love
as she passes him by, he hangs his head,
knowing what broken hearts consist of

The clanging of metal could be heard
ReplyDeleteIt rang across the square,
Soot blackened the air, the smoke that rose,
And the man who was working there.
Silence filled the town that fell so still
Between the ringing noise
As the hammer swung to hit again
Each blow killing the quiet joys.
For the thaw had come as winters grasp
Fast lifted from the land
But it wasn’t a plough there shaping
By the work of the blacksmiths hand
And planting time would see little seed
Sown in the fertile soil
For the warming breeze that moved the air
Brought news of a different toil.
For the season of life’s renewal
Also allowed the start
Of the reaping of the flower of youth
As war tore their lives apart.
Well Done Penny !!!
