Sestina
A sestina poem repeats words throughout the poem. The line-ending words are repeated in the stanzas that follow. And there is a specific rotating order.A sestina has six 6-line stanzas. The last stanza has a 3-line "envoi" which incorporates all the line-ending words, some hidden inside the lines.
The pattern for the traditional sestina with the 6 line-ending words is:
1st stanza | 1 2 3 4 5 6 |
2nd stanza | 6 1 5 2 4 3 |
3rd stanza | 3 6 4 1 2 5 |
4th stanza | 5 3 2 6 1 4 |
5th stanza | 4 5 1 3 6 2 |
6th stanza | 2 4 6 5 3 1 |
Final Envoi stanza | 2--5 4--3 6--1 |
This is new to us, so if it is new to you as well, all we ask is that you try it ...
OURS IS...
Some where in the farest reaches
That little voice that sometimes teaches
between our best and worst decision
is screaming for the right provisions
to bring our thoughts to perfect clarity
so we may live a life of prosperity
To live our dreams of prosperity
each of us try to put in our reaches
and in that moment of perfect clarity
we miss altogether what it teaches
we don't have the best provisions
to benefit from our own decision
So now we come the decision
that money is not the only prosperity
it can only give us some provisions
we have means beyond our reaches
though we don't see what it teaches
we need to bring our mind some clarity
We open our eyes and see the clarity
it comes with another hard decision
question is will we learn all it teaches
or continue to fall into non-prosperity
diving deeper into the darkest reaches
forgetting that we still need provisions
And what it is we think it teaches
may lead us to the wrong provisions
failing to live our life of prosperity
because what we see has no clarity
was that the right or wrong decision
we want what is not within our reaches
Life teaches us clarity in mistakes
Our provisions are a decision we make
whether prosperity reaches our needs or not
I am telling you all this is the hardest form I have tried to date... it may have been the end words that were chosen, and although it was hard, I will be trying it again. In the meantime, if you have done this form before and have suggestions, we are all ears...

Wow - not a form to try in haste. Very impressive to read.
ReplyDeleteThanks for challenging us!
Masterful! You have manipulated your message through the form well. I've read many sestinas that are correct in form, but the message gets lost somewhere. Not yours. Take a bow.
ReplyDeleteWow! wonderful work! Think I will give it a try later.thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I can totally see why it would be the hardest you've tried - I wouldn't even know how to create something remotely close to yours!
